The words “survey” and “surveyor” came to our business language from English. It is the language spoken not only by those who are connected with the sea professionally, but also the language of communication in the international business world.

In the English-Russian dictionary the word SURVEY has the following meanings:(noun) – overview, inspection, review, research(verb) – review, inspect, study with a certain purpose, examine.

SURVEYOR – inspector. It is interesting to note that The Collins Shorter Oxford English Dictionary states that the first occasion when the verb “to survey” was used goes back to 1467, however, according to other sources such activities already existed in Phoenicia.
